Membership

We believe that entrepreneurial leaders, when they work together, can challenge the status quo and achieve greatness.

Our mission is to make you a more effective leader so you can grow your company and positively impact your community.

Do You Qualify For Membership?

We work with a broad range of small businesses:

  • Sales revenue from $1,000,000 to $50,000,000
  • Number of employees from 5 to 250
  • Generally privately or closely held structure

Are these ranges firm or is there flexibility?

  • These ranges are flexible and we do have a few members both bigger and smaller that these ranges
  • Our focus is broadly on serving the needs of small business owners

Our program is not geared for sole practitioners or very small firms. By the same token, larger firms often have other opportunities to gain this same knowledge but are none the less welcome to be members.

Our Process

After more than a decade and having worked with thousands of small businesses, CEO Focus has refined a process that allows business owners to work on their business, to solve problems quickly and efficiently, and to meet their personal and professional goals.

Peer Consulting

Learn from your peers and join other CEOs from diverse companies who are working together to solve their most pressing issues.

  • 8 to 14 individual CEOs will be on a board. Membership in the board does not vary month to month. This becomes your peer group. People who you develop trusting relationships with, who are there for you.
  • It is lonely at the top. This is more than just a cliché. When you run a company you know this all too well. When it is your company and your assets are on the line, your house is mortgaged, the bank has asked for personal guarantees isn’t it nice to discuss really tough problems with people who actually understand what it is like to have this responsibility?
  • No direct competitors will be on board together and generally no significant vendor relationships either. We want the board to be a place where members can speak openly and freely.
  • We all learn best from our mistakes. The school of hard knocks is real and if you are a successful CEO you have experienced more than a few I am sure. We believe it is better to learn from other’s mistakes. The board is a great place to learn what works and does not work directly from your peers.  People who you know, like and trust. People who you might actually listen to.
1 on 1 Coaching

A monthly meeting with your executive coach to focus you on your specific goals, objectives, hurdles and successes.

  • Michael Jordan had a coach. A great coach and together they were able to do more than either would alone.
  • Fortune 500 CEOs have high priced consultants, lawyers, and even coaches to help them be the best.
  • Small business owners and CEOs generally don’t. Why not? Wouldn’t you like a coach who knows your business, understands your issues and is focused on making you great?
  • On those days when you need a kick in the pants, we’ll be there
  • When you achieve your goals, big or small, we’ll be there too to pat you on the back
  • And at 10:00pm as you are wrestling with an important business issue by yourself in your office long after everyone else has gone home, you better believe we will be there when you call (and you better call)

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Join CEO Focus?
  • As our name applies; for focus. You have a vision for your company. Our process and your peer advisory board will keep you focused and moving forward.
  • Because it’s lonely at the top. Yes it is. But it does not have to be. Having 10 or so peers who are working with you on making your dreams a reality helps tremendously. You are not alone in this journey.
  • To receive unfiltered advice. Probably the #1 benefit is that the advice comes with no ulterior motive. These are your peers, your friends, who are telling you what they think because they want to see you succeed. That’s it.
  • Learn to look at your business objectively. Your fellow board members can see your business from the outside in ways you just cannot (see the bullet point above).
  • Personal accountability. It seems a little old fashioned and something we no longer need when we are the boss … but really, everyone needs help from time to time to stick with the plan. Your coach and your peers are all here to support your efforts to succeed. So there is no hiding from your goals, objectives and commitments. That’s just the way you would want it … am I right?
Who joins CEO Focus?

Two types of business leaders join:

  • Successful CEOs who have taken their company as far as they can by themselves
  • Visionary CEOs who want to accomplish their goals and be great

A broad range of small business owners:

  • Sales revenue from $1,000,000 to $50,000,000
  • Number of employees from 5 to 250
  • Generally privately or closely held structure

Are these ranges firm or is there flexibility:

  • Yes, and we do have a few members both bigger and smaller.
  • Our focus is broadly on serving the needs of small business owners but our program is not geared for sole practitioners or very small firms. By the same token, larger firms often have other opportunities to gain this same knowledge but are none the less welcome to be members.

Bottom line: Hard and fast requirements for membership:

  1. $1,000,000 + opportunity. You have identified and articulated a business opportunity that is worth at least one million dollars to you that you want to solve now.
  2. Commitment to your goals. Your commitment is what counts. Your peers and your facilitator will mirror your commitment.
  3. Ability to give and receive quality advice. This is peer consulting and you will be on a board with successful, committed CEOs who are working hard on their most pressing issues. You must be prepared to be a full contributor to the group. To get and to give thoughtful advice.
What are the benefits of membership?
  • Have your own peer advisory board. Your peers who are focused on your success
  • Learn from the school of hard knocks … other people’s hard knocks
  • Disseminate best practice information on a variety of subjects from a range of experts
  • Participate in specialized seminars, speaker series, member only social events

Our Mutual Opt-in Process

We don’t like the hard sell approach and you probably don’t, either.

We are looking for outstanding CEOs and business owners to join our boards. For this to be successful you have to want to participate and we have to want you as a member.

Therefore we have developed a mutual opt-in process that lets us both determine our desire to proceed at each step.

  • We will tell you all about our process, people, fee structure and membership requirements in a form that lets you control how and when you get the information.
  • No calls from sales people. When you are ready to discuss your situation you can do so directly with the Board Facilitator.
  • We will ask you questions about your company, your goals and objectives, and you reserve the right to opt-in if you feel our program will be appropriate and beneficial.

Next Steps

We have explained our process at a high level and the kinds of business leaders we work with. Now it is your opportunity to opt-in and learn more if you want:

YES – tell me more.
I’m interested in learning more about how the board operates, what is covered in a 1 on 1 session, the financial and time commitments required, what our current members have to say about the program, and details on our specialized training programs and I’ll share with you information on my company (which is held in the strictest confidence as you would expect).

No thanks, but I’ll keep listening.
I do not think your program is for me at this time but I’ll keep listening so please put me on your mailing list.

Nope – Not for me.
Thank you for the information.
